The Readers Digest Reader

[solid clean copy, mild shelfwear, top front corner lightly bumped; jacket heavily edgeworn, numerous small tears & chips, small piece missing at lower left-hand corner of front panel, previous owner's address label on ffep, where there is also a large glue stain from a no-longer-present bookplate]. 140 articles, selected from the first 18 years of the RD's publication, and representing "nearly every periodical published in the United States during that period, and virtually every prominent American writer. It constitutes a valuable permanent record of the most stimulating and provocative journalistic writing and opinion of an era, and a history of American magazine reading." (Or, alternatively, a chronicle of middlebrow American culture during the inter-war period.) [NOTE that although this is a stated "First Edition," there is no price printed on the unclipped jacket flaps. And does it bother anybody else that they left the apostrophe out of the book's title? Maybe it tilted to the Left!]
