[light foxing to edges of text block, otherwise just lightly shelfworn; jacket browned a little at edges and spine, a couple of tiny surface-scrapes on front panel, other minor traces of what might have been insect-nibbling]. Juvenile WWII fiction, about a young Nisei who seeks to prove his patriotism by volunteering as a Japanese-speaking interpreter for the U.S. Army -- even after he and his family have already been incarcerated in a relocation camp (the Topaz Relocation Center, in Utah). The book utilizes the same historical background as the 1962 Samuel Fuller film MERRILL'S MARAUDERS, although the latter was based on a different book.
